Reduce separately to an impalpable powder the first five
ingredients ; porphyrise then the alum with the cochineal, in
order to brighten the colour ; put in the cream of tartar and
the bark ; place then the essences in another vessel with the
magnesia ; and when they have been absorbed, mix them
with the first powder, and pass them through a very fine seive.
Use.
This powder perfectly cleans the teeth, without hurting
the enamel ; it strengthens the gums, and colours them a fine,
rose, and agreeably refreshes the mouth. The teeth and
gums are rubbed with it by means of a brush two or three
times a week, and if necessary every day, without any in-
convenience. For young people of from 12 to 18 years, it
is sufficient to use it once a week.
As it is soluble, take care to wet only what is to be made
use of, and to be careful about keeping it in a dry place.
