Plaster for the Aching of tlie Teeth.*
" Take the gums or resins of Jacamoque and of Caregne,
of each 3 i ; dissolve them with a gentle heat in a sufficient
quantity of mastic oil ; put in a drachm of the extract of
laudanum ; all being well incorporated together, take it off
the fire ; let it become cool, and make plasters on taffeta or
black velvet of the size of a French farthing ; they are ap-
plied on each side of the temporal arteries, and remain there
until they fall off themselves ; then others are applied, and
worn as long as may be necessary."

Take Root of Pyrethrum, Black Pepper,
Ginger, Staphisaigre, Mace, Cloves,
Cinnamon, of each, 3 ss. Marine Salt, 3 i.
Reduce them all to a fine powder, put them in a glazed
earthen vessel, pour over them twelve ounces of good red
vinegar, boil them with a gentle fire, stirring them all the
time with a wooden spatula, until reduced to the consistence
of thick honey ; then it is taken off the fire, and kept in a fine
earthen water-pot. For using this paste, the size of a small
bean is put in small fine cloth, which is placed between the
gum and the cheek of the side where the pain and deflux-
ion is.
" The effect of this remedy is, to make the spittle flow
more freely than the smoking or mastication of tobacco, which
