No. 3. The blade of a table knife is pressed ag^ainst the softened ridge of the upper trial plate until it is parallel with the line on the side of the face. The right hand grasps the handle of the knife. By pressure of the first and middle fingers, the blade of the knife is pressed against the wax in such manner that the portion of the knife projecting from the mouth becomes parallel with the line on the face, though, of course, below it. By this means the ridge on this side of the upper trial plate is made parallel with the line on the side of the face. The trial plate, when removed from the mouth, appears as in illus- tration No. 4.
