I directed her to continue the use of the decoction and
brush as at first, and directed her to use a suitable tooth-
powder upon the principles before mentioned, for some
time. Eight or ten days after this I again examined her
mouth, and found a most remarkable amendment in all the
symptoms ; the tenderness of her gums and teeth had greatly
abated ; the gums had assumed a very healthy appearance ;
the unnatural paleness was exchanged for a mild, florid, and
healthy appearance ; pain and uneasiness had entirely left
her jaws and teeth. I had occasion again to scarify one of
the small granular swellings I had before mentioned, which
completed the cure of her gums. In the course of five or
six weeks, her remaining teeth, or many of them became
quite firm, and have assumed a very healthy appearance.
Subsequently I replaced her front under teeth, with an ele-
gant set of natural teeth, mounted on a gold plate.
Case II.—Mrs. M , residing in Catharine-street,
called on me accompanied by her daughter, an amiable
young lady aged 14 years, and requested me to examine
her daughter's teeth and gums ; and observed to me that they
had been in a state of disease for about two years ; that she
had applied to two very respectable physicians, whose names
were familiar to me, stating to them her daughter's case, and
requesting their advice ; and they examined the young lady's
teeth and prescribed for her, but their prescriptions had been
of no avail. She had also applied to one or two dentists
without any benefit, and she expressed great pleasure upon
my assuring her that in all probability a perfect cure could be
effected in the course of a few weeks. The young lady was
of a sanguine temperament. Her gums upon examination,
