BIO Michael Dermitzakis is Professor Emeritus in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He was vice-rector of economic development, chairman of the Faculty of human resources and dean of the School of Sciences at the University of Athens (UoA). He also served as director of the University Muse- um of Geology and Paleontology. He was the president of the Committee of University Museums of UoA, founder of the Natural History Museum (Universi- ty of Athens) at Vrissa, Lesvos island (1999) and chairman of the Committee of the post-graduate study programme of the University of Athens on Museum Studies from 2003 to 2008. His main research interests are geology, paleontol- ogy, university museums and collections. 239
