Mandilaras to the Depart- ment of Philology. They include literary works, oicial documents, private letters and receipts. Furthermore, the UAM is currently in the process of creating two new study collections, a collection of rocks and minerals of archaeological interest and a coin collection. Purpose and prospects The UAM is an integral part of teaching in the Department of History, Archae- ology and Cultural Resources Management, particularly for archaeology courses and especially those focusing on sculpture and pottery. The casts and ceramic collection are used for training students in recording/cataloguing and document- ing archaeological material, in classiication (typological, chronological), and in archaeological illustration. The Department of Philology makes use of the papy- rus fragments as part of its papyrology and paleography courses. The projected creation of an interactive database will help organise and man- age the UAM’s growing collections more eiciently. It will also be the starting point for the development of educational programmes for children and adults in collaboration with the Department’s Cultural Management specialists. These 202
