4i2 THE TIGHTENING OF LOOSE TEETH
A practical bint for taking an indirect impression
of a root-filling 1 found in a dental journal.
A long and strong wire, covered with impression
comjDound, is firmly pressed into the root canal. A
hole is punched in a dish-shaped piece of German
silver plate, filled with impression compound put over
the wire, and, after the first mass is warmed, again
firmly pressed. As the mass cannot give way, an
exact impression may be obtained.
Smgle particularly narrow teeth I replace by cast
teeth.
The tube for the pivot should be kept patent by a
graphite pin.
In case a gold tooth of this kind is visible, an open
face-shaped depression should be made in the was
before being pressed in the mouth, then cast and filled
with .Jenkins' porcelain.
In case of a bite so extremely strong that the
•durability of tube teeth would be endangered, I advo-
cate the castmg of front tetth and setting of porce-
lain facings.
In the case of an athlete all the front teeth had
to be made in this manner, because he bit the porce-
lain teeth to pieces. The cast teeth were likewise
cemented on the pins.
The need for this but rarely occurs, as in such
circumstances it may be advisable to raise the
bite.
Even the smallest molar roots may do good service,
as I intend to show by the following suggestions.
