there has been, and still is, much prejudice, though
without sufficient cause : whatever injury results
from this operation, is mostly from the imperfect
manner in which it is performed, and from subse-
quent neglect of the tooth which has been subjected
to it. A tooth skillfully treated with this instru-
ment, and properly cared for afterward, will not be
more liable to decay at the point operated upon, than
at any other where the dentine may be exposed.
