(c) Bur.—A form of drill for revolution in the handpiece of
the dental engine, intended for the rapid
cutting of tooth structure during the re-
moval of decay and preparation of cavi-
ties. Burs may be divided into two
groups, according to shape and depend-
ing on whether intended to cut round or
plane surfaces (Fig. 62).

includes the round (Fig. 63), oval, pear,
bud and pointed fissure burs.
Group 2 for cutting plane surfaces and angles, includes
the cone, inverted cone, wheel and square or flat-end fissure burs.
Dentate Burs are burs with the cutting blade divided into

teeth, very rapid cutters, intended expecially for attacking
enamel (Fig. 64).
Plug-finishing Burs are burs of a finer cut of similar shape
to those mentioned in Groups i and 2, intended for finish-
ing and burnishing fillings.
