the pins in the cross-pin tooth weakens the hody of the
tooth. ( _' ) 'J'hcir position makes the strain npon the tooth
greater, as it gives increased leverage hetween the pins and
the cntting edge. (3) There is less liahility of cracking
the teeth in soldering the straight-pin tooth as so mnch
metal is not hrought at one point.

In Arranging the Teeth.— First in importance is the cen-

ter or median, line, which is regulated by the line npon the
wax bite. The median line should not be indicated at one
point alone, say at the cntting edges, and the teeth slanting
to the right or left, as is frequently seen, but it should
