merits, and in 1870 a call for subscriptions to a 'testimonial fund' for the
benefit of the inventor was published in the 'Dental Cosmos." The various
societies tlirougliout the country added their offerings to this fund, and their

through his invention. Tiie matter came before the Amcrian Dental Asso-
ciation at its meeting in Nashville, in 1870, and a gold medal, the expense of
which was voluutei-red bv three membei-s, was voted him, with a resolution of
thanks and the sum of one thousand dollars.' The California State Dental
Association - presented him a gcdd medal, and the New York Odontological
Societv, with members of tlie Massachusetts Dental Society and others, gave
him a o-old watch and chain and a sum of money. These acts prove the esti-
mation in wliich this appliance is held by the profession."
