There should be no sharp
angles or crevices, and if the
ordinary forceps is used, that
portion around the joint in a
transverse section should be oval.
Forceps are often made with
octagonal joints, but these should
be condemned, as they may
not only hurt the lips of the
patient, but in case of a slip,
which may happen with the best
operators, they are more liable to
cause injury by striking the other
teeth ; moreover they are very
clumsy and require more room.
