In these analyses, as in the former, the phosphate of lime
was also exposed to a red heat, and consequently was re-
duced to a greater degree of dryness than that in which it
existed in the tooth. In all of them the carbonate of lime
was dried in a heat of 212°, above which it would have been
liable to decomposition, and the gelatine of the three last in
the same temperature.

Analysis of the Small Bones of the Teeth of Man.*

One hundred parts of these small bones, calcined in a
small platina crucible, left a white residuum weighing 59. 5.
The loss of weight occasioned by the animal matter which
was burnt therefore out of it 40.5.
The 59. 5, of the remainder, on which was poured weak
nitric acid, dissolved entirely with a slight effervescence.
The solution was precipitated by ammonia ; the precipi-
tate, white, gelatinous, taken and washed in warm water,
it appeared, from the
then dried and calcined, weighed 38 ;
examination which was made, like phosphate of lime.
The fluid which was precipitated by this phosphate of lime,
mixed with a.solutiou of the sub-carbonate of soda, gave a
