hardened steel slides ;ue secured in a steel holder, as shown in Figure 40(5, and made firm by inserting
the steel pin at the right in the figure, the pin on the left being immovable. The fillings are made in
the holes marked a. h, c. d. These are eight one-hnndredths of an inch cubes. By removing the pin
on the left, as shown in Figure 407, tlu} slides may be separated or removed and the fillings taken out
for examination. The set of slides lying below the holder in Figure 407 are for one-tenth of an inch
cubes. Slides for several sizes of fillings may be used in one liulder. Such an instrument should be
very accurately constructed.
